FAQ
Can I use Tipino without streaming services?
Yes. Just manually select up to 100 artists, set how much of your subscription each of them should get, and you’re done.
Is all my subscription money going to the artists?
As much as possible, yes. Payment providers take a small cut first — that’s outside our control. From what’s left, Tipino keeps 8% to cover running costs. Everything else goes to the artists. As Tipino grows, we’d like to bring that 8% down.
I listen to some really small and really big artists, but only want to support the small ones. Is that possible?
Yes, and it’s straightforward. You can exclude any artist from your monthly payouts — they simply won’t receive a share. Tipino doesn’t know how “big” an artist is, so you stay in control of that decision.
I listen to a lot of random playlists, but only want to support my favourite artists.
There’s a setting for that. You can require that Tipino only counts an artist once you’ve listened to at least 2 (or more) distinct tracks from them in a month. If you’re shuffling through a random playlist, you’ll usually hear just one song per artist — so they won’t qualify. If you’re playing an album or a playlist you actually love, you’ll naturally hit that threshold. It’s a simple way to filter out artists you didn’t really choose.
Do you offer yearly subscriptions with a discount?
No, and here’s why: we want you to be able to adjust or cancel at the end of every month. But the bigger reason is that Tipino doesn’t work like a normal subscription product — we don’t mark up your money and resell it. Apart from the 8%, we don’t make anything on top of what you pay. A yearly discount would just mean less going to the artists, which defeats the point.
How does the payout calculation work with Streaming?
You connect your streaming platform and keep listening as usual. Tipino tracks your listening history and calculates each artist’s share based on how many minutes you spent listening to them during the month. For some tracks we don’t receive complete data — in those cases we work with whatever information we have, or skip the track if there’s nothing useful to go on.
How does the payout calculation work with Additional Artists?
Simple math: if you add 100 artists, each gets 1%. One artist gets 100%. Anywhere in between, you can either distribute equally or give some artists a bigger share than others.
How does it work when I use both Streaming and Additional Artists?
You decide what percentage of your subscription goes to each type. After that, the calculation works exactly the same as described above for each one separately.
Can I connect Tipino to Spotify?
Yes, but there’s a small workaround involved. You’ll need a Last.fm account (free to create), connect Spotify to Last.fm, and then connect Last.fm to Tipino. The reason: Spotify restricts access to listening data for most third-party apps, and Tipino currently doesn’t meet their requirements for direct access. Last.fm bridges that gap.
