The Script

The Script is a pop rock band which formed in 2001 in Dublin, Ireland. The band currently consists of Danny O'Donoghue (vocals), Glen Power (drums), Benjamin Seargent (bass) and Ben Weaver (guitar). Mark Sheehan was also a member of the band up until his death in 2023. Sheehan was the co-founder of the band along with O'Donoghue.

After reaching number fifteen in the charts with their 2008 debut single "We Cry," their second single "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" peaked at number two. Their debut album The Script was released on the 11th August 2008, and went straight to number one on iTunes, both in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Their third single, "Breakeven," was released on the 10th November 2008, peaking at number 21 in the UK singles chart. The band went on to release two more singles from their debut: "Talk You Down" and "Before the Worst."

The Script's second album, Science and Faith, was released on the 13 September 2010. It reached number 1 on the UK album chart and the Irish album chart. The first single titled "For the First Time" peaked at number 4 in the UK charts. The second single from the album was "Nothing."

The band's third album #3 was released in September 2012. The first single released from the album was "Hall of Fame". This features a vocal from will.i.am. Other singles from the album include "Six Degrees of Separation" and "If You Could See Me Now", a tribute to O'Donoghue's father and Sheehan's parents.

On 12 September 2014, they released their fourth album, No Sound Without Silence, with the lead single Superheroes was released on 22 July 2014. Other singles from the album include "No Good in Goodbye", which was released on 15 October 2014 and "Man on a Wire" which was released on 15 March 2015.

The band's tour for this album. titled the "No Sound Without Silence Tour" occurred from 16 January 2015 through 18 September 2015. Throughout the tour, the band played a total of 56 total shows, and performed within Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America.

Immediately after the tour, the band went on a nearly year-long unannounced hiatus. O'Donoghue didn't reveal this information until July 2017 and claimed that the hiatus occurred due to the band wanting some time off to "chill" after making four albums and going on five world tours. Shortly after this announcement, it was revealed that another reason the band went on hiatus was due to O'Donoghue needing throat surgery.

On 1 September 2017, the band released their fifth album, Freedom Child, with the lead single Rain released before on 14 July 2017. 2 promotional singles was also released to promote the album. On 25 August 2017, Written in the Scars was released as the first promotional single from the album. A few days later, on 30 August 2017, Love Not Lovers was released. On 13 November 2017, Arms Open was released as the second single from the album.

On 8 November 2019, the band released their sixth album, Sunsets & Full Moons, with the lead single The Last Time released prior on 20 September 2019. Something Unreal was released as a promotional single on 1 November 2019. On 10 January 2020, Run Through Walls was released as the second single from the album.

On 27 August 2021, they released the single I Want It All and on 1 October 2021, their first Greatest album, Tales from the Script: Greatest Hits.

On 14 April 2023, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Sheehan died at the age of 46 in hospital after a brief illness.

On May 9, 2024, the band announced that long-time supporting tour member Ben Sargeant and newcomer Ben Weaver would be joining the band as their bassist and lead guitarist, respectively, as they felt being a trio “would never be the same”.

On 17 May 2024, the band released their first single Both Ways from their seventh album, Satellites, their first single since Sheehan's death. The second single off the album, At Your Feet, was released on 19 July 2024. The album was released on 16 August 2024.
